I had a specific purpose for venturing into Barnes & Noble today. Honest. At last night's NIPA meeting, I met a woman who is part of a group called Soul Sisters that is based on the ideas in the book
The Millionth Circle. From what was said this sounds like a cross between Tribe (which was part of my life in Orlando) and a women's moon group that was part of my life in Baton Rouge. The person who established the group was so welcoming (she actually commented how excited she was that I was interested). Anyway, I wanted to read the book before the meeting next Saturday (it meets 1st and 3rd Saturdays at the Hobart UU Church).

On a positive note, I found the book. However, I had a headache and hadn't eaten since mid-afternoon yesterday. My resistance being severely compromised I bought some other books and several magazines (mostly cooking ones). I was a very bad [livejournal.com profile] destabee; there will be no cookie for me. :(

Cameras

It turns out it wasn't my camera that died; it was my battery charger that had stopped working. Before discovering this I made use of some Amazon credit (from selling books) and I ordered a Powershot S5 as a stop gap measure until I feel comfortable making a decision about an better camera. Even with my S2 working again, I don't regret ordering a replacement. The sharpness of my photos has been decreasing for the past few months. I'll use the S2 in less than ideal circumstances (e.g., damp weather, etc.) and I'll have the S5 to grow my skills further and try to sort out what best fits my needs given my developing "style" which is nature based close-ups with very shallow depth of field. Sure I'll take other types of shots but these are the place where I think I have the potential to do something special. Eventually I would like to get better at landscapes as well. The S5 should arrive this week and fall break gives me a four day weekend next week; hopefully the weather will be good for capturing the sights of autumn.
