I am off this morning to explore the SW corner of Michigan with CR. I didn't accomplish much yesterday. Combine that with the fact that this and next week are going to be busy (I have CERT training 6 evenings and Saturday morning after next -- the same day as the next Soul Sister gathering) and there is a fog of guilt over going off to play. Hopefully it will burn off soon. It is good that CR is going with me or I would talk myself out of going. I actually need some serious groceries and they are much cheaper at Apple Valley.

The major obstacle to accomplishment yesterday was that it was uncomfortably hot and humid. I did wash and vacuum the car and do a bit of decluttering. I also pondered what I might teach each of the semesters over the next 5 years. What I came up with would move me in new directions as a scholar and tie my academic world more firmly to my personal values.

I am way behind on reading LJ, answering emails, almost everything. Fortunately tomorrow there are no classes and I plan to spend the day in the office catching up. I need to remember to pick up some little welcome gift for the new departmental secretary.

Time to shower and meet CR for breakfast before we run away from home and computers for the day.

CR and I had a leisurely morning. We lingered over breakfast that included especially yummy French toast. Then we headed east on Hwy 12 and I pointed out the Lithuanian market, the Swedish bakery and a few other things before we headed south through an area with lots of grape and apple production and wineries until we ended up at Apple Valley market. At the market I picked up some interesting things and stocked up on one of life's essential -- organic popcorn. Our route back was slightly different so that we could go through Three Oaks where we stopped for lunch at Froelich's. As we passed through New Buffalo we took a detour and stopped at the beach for a few minutes in the sun. Back in Indiana I showed here where to find a couple more free beaches and she gave me a tour of her place. All that and I was home by 2. Sadly it is quite hot and so my afternoon will involve much time spent sitting in front of the fan.
