Home Sweet Home
Jul. 8th, 2008 06:17 pmHome again. I am home again for at least a few days. I could deploy again next week. If so it will likely be to Cedar Rapids unless Bertha turns into a problem for the southeast.
The garden is a bit out of control. The saddest thing is that all the broccoli bolted while I was gone. I was hoping that J or ChR would cut it an eat it. Oh well. I picked a big bowl of stuff tonight. It included half a dozen cherry tomatoes, a couple dozen beans - some purple and some green, a couple dozen pea pods, three green onions, three tiny little carrots, a dozen or so kale leaves, some lettuce leaves, a few stalks of rhubarb. Tonight was basically a bit of triage to start untangle the jungle that happened while I was gone. In the morning, I'll start dehydrating herbs and work on getting things back under control with trimming, staking, weeding, harvesting, etc.. There will be a few empty containers that can be replanted.
My landlord put a small window A/C unit in the bedroom while I was gone so I can keep at least one room cool on the really hot days. The rest of the time, I will make do with fans and going to my office on the worst days. My plan for the rest of the week is to working on personal things in the mornings and professional things in the afternoon and evenings.
Now I am off to cook dinner with some of what I picked.
