Strange happenings

Another odd happening in my week. About 5:30 there was a knock on the door. It was a guy claiming to be from the company that provides gas to company that provides gas and electric to where I live. He wanted to see if I had some particular program listed on my bill. He was a bit pushy when I said I didn't have my last bill (I don't I discard them after paying them). Something about it bugs me. Had it not been for the fact that both my phone and house phones are currently dead, I would have probably called either the company or the police and likely ended up looking stupid since I can't say what has tripped the red flag about all this.
