Odd combinations
Jun. 7th, 2007 10:15 pmI would not have expected to use the terms sensual and surreal to describe the same event but that is the best way I can find to describe tonight's drive home from campus.
The sensual part was that lazy almost hypnotic type of sensual that I most often associate with island life and moonlit beaches. The air was warm, the sky overcast and the darkness velvet. The roads I take are tree lined to the point of being leafy tunnels in places. The darkness was broken by the headlight of a train who's path echoed my own for part of the drive and hundred of fireflies. The radio provided a soundtrack of jazz; I was tired from a long day but not completely exhausted. All that was missing were lapping waves, the smell of jasmine, and the touch of a lover. The surreal parts were the sudden swerves to miss fallen and in one case falling branches. Well that and the sudden flurry of light reflecting from the eyes of small creatures running for cover. The shots of adrenaline didn't fit with the mellow and slightly mystical feelings. This may be a good thing because it kept my thoughts from wandering too far from the road.
