Just over 12 hours to go
First in non-trip happenings, according to an email I received today, as of August 1, I will once again have someone to call Dean and I presume Acting Chair.
I am done for today. Tomorrow's agenda with tomorrow being used in a broad sense to include from wake up until arrival in Coolum:
Up at 5 to do the last little bit of packing and as much teaching related work as possible (so that I have to lug less with me to work while on the trip)
11:30 head east to Michigan City
12:20 catch a bus back west to O'Hare to be there 3 hours before my flight (even for a compulsively early person that seems like a bit much
5:40 scheduled departure for the 4.5 hr flight to LAX to arrive at 8 CA time
11:20 p.m. scheduled departure for the 14 hour flight to Brisbane which arrives at 6:05 (Australian CST) on Monday morning
7:30 a.m. catch the SunAir bus for a 2.5 hour ride from Brisbane to Coolum
If all goes according to schedule (but what are the odds of that?) we should reach the Hyatt about 10 a.m. on what will be Monday morning (which would be about 7 p.m. on Sunday in terms of Chicago time). Technically check-in is not until 2 p.m. but I am hoping they will have mercy on us and let us have our cheap room early. After one night we move to the much nicer room at the conference rate.
Our plan for Monday is a visit to Noosa It looks like the have a strong local food community and there is Noosa National Park to explore.
On Tuesday we plan to go to Australia Zoo
On Wednesday morning I plan to go to the Eumundi Market and the conference gets underway late afternoon.
Thursday through Saturday are conference things.
Technically Sunday morning is too but I really would like to slip away for either a whale watching cruise or to see some more of the area via one of the tours out of Noosa or even this one that leaves from the Hyatt and goes to Fraiser Island. I wonder how awful it would be to miss the business meeting and the last few presentations. There might be more posts from me before I leave but I was trying to figure the timing out for myself and figured I would more my FL with details :)
