I think this was meant to be reassuring but I am not sure that is how it comes across

Email from the Chancellor to the distribution list called "Everybody" (faculty, staff, students, alumni?)

I want to assure the campus community that PNC has an emergency response plan in place to respond to campus incidents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the Virginia Tech students and with the entire Virginia Tech community"

Yes we do in fact have an emergency response plan. I have a copy with a designated home on my desk. I have been given a copy no less than three times since arriving here last August. I am not sure it would be at all helpful in the kind of incident that occured at Virginia Tech. It has protocols and procedures for the following: bomb threat, PPC Disturbances or Demonstrations, Criminal Behavior, Earthquake, Evaucations of buildings and/or grounds, Fire/Explosion, Hazardous Material Spills, Lockdowns, Media Relations, Medical Emergencies, Psychological Crisis, Snow Emergency, Suspiscious Package Identification and Handling, Tornado, and Utility Emergency.

My question how many folks on college campus received similarly vague messages today?

My Remote Office with a View (Day 3 of 365)

The weather was very nice here today with temps near 70 and the forecast rain not manifesting. I took advantage of the nice weather and a break of about 1 hour and 15 minutes between my morning class and office hours to slip off to Red Mill County park to grade exams in the sunshine while being serenaded by various feathered musicians. The park is only 2.5 miles from campus and makes a nice place to get away for a bit. Five photos behind the cut and more at http://flickr.com/photos/destabee/
