So much for making the most of the time while my students take exams. Pretty much nothing is working thanks to this problem

The problem is summed up this way by the campus IT folks: "Multiple systems are currently unavailable. We have not yet received an ETA on when the issue will be fixed and these systems will be back online. As soon as we learn anything more, we will pass that information along to you."

This systems unavailable include networked file storage (we are not supposed to save things to our desktops), Blackboard (the course management system for online courses), the systems used for student records, registration, and financial aid, and many software programs that are housed on the network servers. Oddly campus email does work.

In other words if you can't do it with a pencil and paper, you probably can't do it today. Thank goodness I can distract myself with the internet. Also in the positive category, I worried that I had made the exam too long but given that 60 percent of the first class has finished in about half of the available time, I guess not.
Anyone have recommendations for places to stay in or near Indianapolis? I have a conference downtown on the27th and 28th and so far the conference hotel and other recommended (read expensive) places downtown are full.
