The plan for the day is heading to the office to work. The only question is to I stop for Indian food on the way. This week looks crazy even before it begins. Thankfully week two of classes is a short one due to MLK day. Sadly the most interesting thing in my weekend so far is the fact that I reworked my google calendar to separate teaching time, outside of class teaching related tasks, administrative and serivce acitivities (read meetings and prep for meetings), research and writing (should I actually have time for any of that), and personal activities. Seeing things all nicely color coded is rather depressing.

The order of importance for getting tenure is publications, teaching, service. Well we call them Discovery, Instruction, and Engagement. The distribution of my activities and time demands is Teaching, Service, and Discovery (which happens mostly nights and weekends).

So that my post is about something other than work here, a brief comment about birds outside my window. Feeders have been pretty quiet. The large flocks of pine siskins haven't been around. I don't mind as the feeders don't need to be fileld as often and it makes it easier to watch the less numerous visitiors -- downy woodpeckers, the red-bellied woodpecker pecker, the red and white breasted nuthatches, chickadees, cardinals and such.

I think I'll skip Indian food in favor of a greater likelihood of some down time this evening.

I hope the weeked ends on a positive note for everyone and the coming week is a good one.
